Martijn Van Wijngaarden

Global Energy Transaction Director, Iron Mountain

Martijn has a broad background across the energy value chain, starting his career at energy trader and supplier Vattenfall, before moving into renewable energy and flexibility development at Sunrock, where he was responsible for structuring and commercializing renewable energy production and flexibility.

Martijn joined Iron Mountain Data Centers three years ago and, in his current role as Director of Global Energy Solutions, is responsible for shaping and executing the company’s global energy strategy. His work spans wholesale energy markets, Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), behind-the-meter energy solutions, and managing evolving grid constraints and how they translate into customer contracting and commercial arrangements across Europe, North America, and APAC.

This session approaches the topic through an energy lens and focuses on the energy story behind new infrastructure. It explores how new energy solutions affect customers, the electricity grid, and the total cost of power, with a focus on how these trade-offs differ across regions and what can be learned globally.
